Hybridity in Making

Client:

Year:

2023

In my installation Untitled, 2024 I created six knitting pieces of the same size, each crafted at different time frames using wool and mohair. The work commences with a white area, followed by the introduction of dots, which were gradually added. I chose to brush these dots not from the beginning but in the middle, showcasing the gradual change and blurring in the process. In the process of brushing, the fibre of the dots crosses the edge but the wool remains the same. When standing these up, the light comes through these six pieces, the edges of the frame obstruct the light, while the central areas remain transparent, enabling viewers to glimpse the traces of the process visible from the back, and the loop of the yarns. The audio plays with this work is the re-mix of the sound of winding the yarns before starting, setting up the needles on the machine, and moving the carriage when applying different techniques. Each of the sounds is a document of the time. This work aims to reflect on the hybridity within time, place and process through knitting, also the exploration of the concept boundary.
